The Umbrella Academy’s second season takes all the things that made the first season great and expands upon them in amazing ways. The season begins with a bang as we see the Hargreeves family fighting an army to prevent yet another apocalypse that they somehow seemed to have caused. Five then travels back in time 10 days to reunite his family and stop the apocalypse. This season gives all of the Hargreeves more screen time and much needed character development. Diego, Ben, and Allison are standouts to me this season because not only do they each get great development they also get an increased amount of screen time when compared to last season. I also enjoyed Klaus, Vanya, and number five this season because they both have some pretty awesome moments and each get their share of interesting character development. The one character I didn’t really like this season was Luther who I felt had the least character development and the weakest storyline. Not only that but when compared to his siblings powers and the feats they were doing Luther seemed really weak in comparison. The handler played by Kate Walsh is back as the main villain season and she does a great job as her portrayal is both funny and entertaining. New additions to the season are Yusuf Gatewood who plays Raymond Allison’s husband and civil rights activists. Ritu Arya who plays Lila Pitts Diego’s love interest and Marin Ireland who plays Sissy Vanya’s love interest. I enjoyed all of these new characters and liked that they brought normalcy and love interest to some of the Hargreeves. In addition to these characters the Sweds were introduced as new villains. I thought that were cool characters but they seemed to play a very tiny role in the overall plot. In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed the second season of the Umbrella Academy. It had lots of great character development, fight scenes, and gave us an interesting story that played well with conspiracy theories. Though there were parts of the season that kind of dragged like Luther’s sub plot and at times Klaus’s subplot with his cult. Overall I think that the second season of the Umbrella Academy is worth watching and would recommend it to my friends and family.
Final Rating: 8.5/10
